Emmet Dennis, the president of the University of Liberia, discusses the challenges facing the country – and the university. He became president of Liberia’s major institution of higher learning earlier this year after working in administrative positions at Rutgers University.

The program also includes an interview with Marbue Richards, Liberia’s deputy minister of youth and sports. He discusses how the country is using sports events to diffuse tensions between ethnic groups within Liberia.

Also, the program includes an interview with an administrator for Liberia’s most renowned theatrical group, Flomo Theatre Productions. The group has been engaged in a range of projects to use their dramatic skills not just to promote the art of theater, but to transform the social sphere of this country.

Jonathan Hicks, a DBC senior fellow and former political reporter for The New York Times, is the show’s host. He is now traveling in Liberia and to report on the development of West Africa’s oldest independent country.
