One of the most commonly cited conventions of New York City politics has been the near impossibility of defeating incumbents. But that rule seems to have shattered in the recent Democratic primary for City Council seats, with an unusually large number of incumbents losing. The politics of insurgency is the subject of a discussion on the current Urban Focus. The show features a discussion with several candidates who defeated incumbents – Margaret Chin of Manhattan, Debi Rose of Staten Island and Jumaane Williams of Brooklyn.
